Thiriez confirms vanishing foam intentions

LFP President Frédéric Thiriez has confirmed the LFP's intention to introduce vanishing foam - recently seen in the FIFA World Cup - into Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and the Coupe de la Ligue as of season 2014-15.

Following the appearance on many French news sources of the impending use of vanishing foam in France, LFP president Frédéric Thiriez has confirmed that, in the wake of the LFP's Administrative Council's agreement, the subject will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the French Football Federation's Executive Committee on July 24.

Thiriez is hoping that the system of temporary on-field demarcation, which proved a resounding success at the recent FIFA World Cup in Brazil, will be used in the upcoming season in competitions organised by the LFP (Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and the Coupe de la Ligue).

'Good for football'

"The vanishing foam is a big step towards minimising contestation and time-wasting," he declared. "I've always been a supporter of any solution that can help our referees; the LFP was one of the first organisations to introduce microphones and ear buds for referees and now they are in common use in every big competition. What's good for the referees is good for football."
